Akira is not about feminism.

Cast : Sonakshi Sinha , Anurag Kashyap , Amit Sadh , Konkana Sen Sharma .

Direction : A R Muragadoss .

Plot : Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) is on the cops wanted list because of a mistaken identity . Will the cops let her live her life , after realizing their mistake ?

My views : Akira (Sonakshi Sinha ) starts to learn karate at a young age , as self defense . The younger Akira has a striking resemblance to Sonakshi Sinha . Akira is a recluse which attributes to her having spend 3 years at a remand home due to some incidents that happened in her childhood . I liked the finesse with which she has performed the action scenes .

Anurag Kashyap as Rana is a cold blooded corrupt ACP . He is fearless and dominating , dominates all around him. He is quick to call the shots . He has got all the best dialogues in the movie . In fact , the movie has more of Rana than Akira . The movie should have been called Rana instead .

I liked Konkana Sen as Rabia . she is a fearless no-nonsense cop . I liked the way she carries herself around as a pregnant lady .

I liked the scenes between Akira and her father (Atul Kulkarni) . The scenes have a warmth even though they are less in number .

Laxmi Rai comes in a cameo which I found irritating because of her funny accent . she was speaking as if somebody had strangled her .

I would have liked it , if there were action scenes between Akira and Rana ACP.

The scenes in the mental hospital failed to bring a connect with me . The scenes where a drugged Akira was beating the hospital security black and blue appeared ridiculous to me , she could hardly walk , but people were flying in all directions. Also , how can a cop take somebody to a mental hospital for shock treatments without a proper court verdict ? also , Akira’s family seemed to be pretty fine about leaving her at the asylum.

I found the climax sad and helpless . I  liked the closing dialogue  in the movie , where Konkana says that all the daughters of this country should live on their strength like Akira.

Akira is not women centric just because it has a woman as the protoganist , neither does it come across as a feminist movie . It is just about what you will do when you are in an unjust situation . Many of us might just give in ,while Akira just chose to fight .Overall , Akira is a one time watch for me .

Quotes that caught me :

Life always tests you with the special virtues that lie in you .

Aaj pahli baar time pe break maara hai.

Abhi sab halwa hai.

Uda do sabko .

Aap sochiye mat,please .

Uske liye koi thanks bolta hai kya , pagan.

Meeting hai kehke kahi chale mat jaana.

Bas meri beti nahi , bas iss desh ki har ladki Akira ki thara apne bal pe khada Hona chaahiye.
