My view in a nutshell:
+ve : Engaging , Good Humor , Focused,Can be watched multiple times.
My views in detail :
Following one’s dream and staying focused marks the centre plot of Godha.
Manayathu Vayal is the largest ground in Kannadikallu village, where the youngsters want to play cricket. The village commitee wants to build a stadium on Manayathu vayal, where all sports can be played. However, the older generation of wrestlers, headed by Captain(Renji Panicker) is not only dead against the plan, but they also rough up anybody who tries playing cricket on Manayathu vayal.
Captain(Renji Panicker) is my favorite in Godha. He is not pushed aside as the hero’s father, instead he has a strong role to play.He is a man for whom wrestling is everything. He is feared by the men in the village and the women secretly admire him.Over the years, his pride is hurt as people lose interest in wresting.I liked Renji Panicker as captain who is grumpy, stubborn, angry all the same time and he finally transforms into a happy man on regaining his pride.
Wamiqa Gabbi as Adithi,is Basil Joseph’s new find. She portrays the typical fierce, head held high Punjabi girl, who runs away from home to follow her dreams. She is star struck on seeing the wresting legends, when she arrives at Kannadikallu. She turns the plot of the movie in favor of her,in the second half.
Tovino Thomas as Anjaneya Das/Das is Captain’s son,a wrestling champion who left wresting after an argument with his father, years back. The father and son are at logger heads now, with the latter immensely fearing the former.Das is also aimless in life, spending most of his time at the sports club.
Aju as Balettan brings in a lot of comedy into the movie.Tovino and Aju are compared to Mohanlal and Jagathi in a scene, which i found apt.
Another character i liked is Paandi,Das’ room mate in Punjab university. He too brings in a lot of humor ,sadly his character’s length was very short.I would have liked to see more of him on screen. The scene where he goes around asking for beef,in Punjab,is epic.
Parvathy as Das’ Mother and Captain’s wife, too is humourous in Godha. She has captain wrapped around her finger, and i liked the way she taunts him through out the movie.
The songs are melodious, with aaro nenjil being my favorite.
A little bit of Godha is shot in Punjab. Here Punjab is not restricted to the mustard fields alone.
Godha belongs to the genre of movies like PERUVANNAPURATHE VISHESHANGAL and can be watched multiple times.
Godha is a tale of following one’s dream, and not straying away from it,even though the whole world is against your dreams.Godha entertains and provides lots to laugh. It is a family entertainer and will appeal to people of all ages.I didnt realise how 2 hours passed by.I would strongly suggest you to watch Godha in theatres as soon as possible. This is total value for money.
