Cast : R Madhavan,Vijay Sethupathi , Shraddha Srinath, Varalaxmi Sarath.
Written & Directed by : Pushkar – Gayathri.
Plot : Vikram is an encounter specialist who is given the task to eliminate the dreaded gangster Vedha. Things go haywire, when Vikram kills Vedha’s brother in an encounter.
My view in a nutshell :
+ve : Engaging Suspense Thriller , Occasional jokes.
My view in detail :
Set in Chennai,Vikram Vedha is a cat and mouse race between Vikram and Vedha. As per Vikram,he is the cat and Vedha the mouse. As per Vedha, the cat is of no use, once the mouse is caught.
Madhavan as Vikram is an fiery encounter specialist, who is very loyal to his job.As he puts it,he sees things in black and white,a person is either good or bad, there is nothing in between.Apparently, that is what his father, who too was a cop taught him.He doesnt think twice before killing a criminal, because he claims to know how to differentiate between an criminal and an innocent person.
Just when i thought that I was totally bowled over and mesmerized by Vikram, entered Vedha(Vijay Sethupathi),a maverick genius gangsta. He takes the movie to a different level.Vedha is known to be a dangerous criminal, who is proud to have committed 16 murders. As he mentions,he enjoys the world of crime, and everybody should take up a profession that one enjoys, and for him it is crime.
Priya(Shraddha Srinath)is a lawyer, who is married to Vikram. She has a mind of her own and the couple starts to have internal clashes, when Priya takes up the case of Vedha.
Hareesh Peradi as the ruthless Cheta is a revelation in Vikram Vedha.
I liked the face off moments between Vikram and Vedha. Each time the duo meet,Vedha has a different story to tell Vikram, and ends it with a question which puts Vikram in a fix.I also liked the way Vedha irritates Vikram. Both the actors have got into the skin of the character. As Vedha puts it , both Vikram and Vedha are similar in many ways.
The scene I liked the most was Vedha’s intro scene. The songs are melodious and the fight scenes are thrilling.I liked the BGM each time Vedha comes on screen.Needless to say,Vedha is my favorite in Vikram Vedha.
To me,the movie is akin to the age old story of the King,Vikram and the ghost,Vethal, who would piggy back on the king,to tell a story, following which he poses a question to the king.
The movie ends in an interesting juncture, leaving much to the viewers imagination.
Vikram Vedha is an edge of the seat thriller, with twists every now and then.I would suggest not to miss this flick.
